But the true fame came to Winehouse after her second album Black To Black recorded in similar style was released in 2006. The legendary musician Prince proclaimed himself an Amy's fan and recorded a cover version of her song Love Is A Losing Game and offered her to take part in his tour.

The discography of English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse consists of two studio albums, one live album, three compilation albums, four extended plays, 14 singles (including three as a featured artist), three video albums and 14 music videos. At the time of her death on 23 July 2011, Winehouse had sold over 1.75 million singles and over 3.98 million albums in the United Kingdom.[1] Meanwhile, she had sold about 3.4 million tracks and 2.7 million albums in the United States as of the same date.[2]

Winehouse's debut album, Frank, was released in October 2003 and peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart.[3] However, none of the four singles released from the album managed to reach the top fifty of the UK Singles Chart.[3] Her second album, Back to Black, was released in October 2006, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart and number seven on the Billboard 200 in the United States.[3][4] The album was certified 11-times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and was the best-selling album of 2007 in the UK.[5][6] The first single from the album, 'Rehab', peaked at number seven in the UK and at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.[3][7] The album's second single, 'You Know I'm No Good', reached number 18 in the UK.[3] Other singles included the title track, which peaked at number eight in the UK, 'Tears Dry on Their Own' and 'Love Is a Losing Game'.[3] A deluxe edition of the album was released in the UK in November 2007 and also topped the UK chart. By October 2018, Back to Black had sold 3.93 million copies,[8] becoming the 13th best-selling album in the UK of all time.[9]

Winehouse collaborated with other artists, as a vocalist on the song 'Valerie' on Mark Ronson's solo album, Version. The song peaked at number two in the UK.[3] She also collaborated with former Sugababes member Mutya Buena on 'B Boy Baby', the final single from Buena's debut solo album, Real Girl. Winehouse's last studio recording was the song 'Body and Soul', a duet with Tony Bennett. The song appears on Winehouse's posthumous compilation album Lioness: Hidden Treasures and Bennett's album Duets II. In 2015, the critically acclaimed documentary filmAmy, which depicts the life and death of Winehouse, spawned an original soundtrack of the same name that includes Winehouse's well known tracks, previously unheard tracks, rare live sessions, covers and tracks created by film composer Antonio Pinto. It is Winehouse's second posthumous compilation album. The soundtrack peaked at number 19 on the UK Albums Chart.

Biography

Despite of being so young, Amy Winehouse has already earned the reputation of one of the brightest soul and R&B stars. Famous musician was born in 1984 in Britain. Her father was a taxi driver and her mother was a pharmaceutist. However Amy's parents divorced when she was nine and her brother was thirteen years old. Her elder relatives were the ones who inculcated in Amy a love to music: her mother was often listening to Frank Sinatra and Dinah Washington and her brother taught her to play the guitar. When she was twelve, Winehouse had entered the theatre school, from which she was expelled due to the conflicts with the teachers. Soon after that she began to write her own songs. But before she managed to get to the scene, she had changed lots of jobs, including a job of a journalist in World Entertainment News Network. Finally she began to sing in a jazz band. After one of the concerts a producer came to her and suggested recording some songs in a studio. This way the creation of the album Frank began.

This album was released in 2003 and became platinum. Songs in retro-R&B style made the songstress famous. The sound was chosen according to Amy's personal tastes: The Ronnettes, Frank Sinatra, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye among others. The main themes of her songs were the difficult relations with men and the alcohol. But the true fame came to Winehouse after her second album Black To Black recorded in similar style was released in 2006. The legendary musician Prince proclaimed himself an Amy's fan and recorded a cover version of her song Love Is A Losing Game and offered her to take part in his tour. Also the popular rapper Jay-Z made a remix on the single Rehab.

Amy is well known for her looks and outlandish actions no less than for her singing. The most striking in Winehouse is the combination of a strong voice and not very prominent build. Another distinctive feature of hers is a high coiffure made of the black coarse strands, gathered in a pony-tail, and the aggressive 'black' make-up. Shocking actions are a norm for her – for instance, once during an interview she took a piece of glass and carved on her skin 'I love Blake', as a proof of the earnestness of her relationship with her boyfriend. In November 2007 Amy will begin the recording of her new album. Her producer Mark Ronson said that it should be 'older or more morbid or like really wall-of-sound'.
